FACTORS AFFECTING FOOD SECURITY AT HOUSEHOLD LEVEL IN THE MEKONG DELTA

Abstract

The Mekong Delta is the largest granary in the country, providing food not only for the region, but also for national food security and exports. However,  household food security in the region is not yet guaranteed, a large number of households are unable to afford enough food. In order to provide a practical basis for  ensuring household food security in the Mekong Delta, the questionnaire for data collection on 300 respondents was used. Exploratory factor and  multivariate linear analysis were used for the data analysis. The results revealed that there are seven groups of factors influencing food security by the decreasing order including (1) market, traffic and mechanization, (2) farm land size and manpower of the household, (3) storage, (4) four houses linking, (5) state policies, (6)
production planning and customs, and household food distribution, (7) natural conditions.
